Service Hours FAQs

WHY DO WE TRACK SERVICE HOURS?

  • At the Honey W. Nashman Center for Civic Engagement and Public Service we aim to have service and civic engagement at the heart of everything GW does. One way we are able to communicate the service we do is by keeping track of service hours. A large portion of the GW community engages in service and by tracking service hours we are able to better understand the quality and level of both direct and indirect service that we contribute on a local, national, and global level.

HOW DO I SUBMIT SERVICE HOURS?

  • This year we collect service hours via a downloadable spreadsheet which can be found here.

  • The Nashman Center is transitioning to a new database system to track service and community engaged scholarship but it will not be ready until 2018-19. During AY 17-18 we will track service hours through the spreadsheets

WHEN DO I SUBMIT SERVICE HOURS?

  • Email us your completed service hour spreadsheet (group or individual) at the end of the each semester at gwserves@gwu.edu. The dates for this year are December 15, 2017, and April 16, 2018.

WHICH FORM IS FOR ME? GROUP OR INDIVIDUAL?

  • If you are recording service only for yourself, please use the individual spreadsheet to keep track of all of the service that you do. If you are the student leader for a group or the representative for your GW office or department use the group spreadsheet to keep track of the service your group members complete.

WHAT IF I OR MY GROUP DOES A LOT OF SERVICE THROUGHOUT THE YEAR?

  • We recommend recording your service as you go in order to keep an accurate record.

  • For a step-by-step guide of how to fill out the spreadsheet follow the links below:

WHAT ABOUT SERVICE AWARDS?

  • The Nashman Center is proud to award the President’s Volunteer Service Award (PVSA) to GW community members who complete more than 100 hours of service between April 21, 2017 – April 16, 2018. If are graduating and have contributed at least 100 hours of service during your GW career you will be eligible for a silver service graduation cord.
