Veteran Service Initiative

VSI Main Image
The VSI is geared towards a community-based solution for meeting the needs of student veterans and service members.
Mission
The mission of the Veteran Service Initiative is to connect student service members with service opportunities that build upon their military careers and assist with their transition to student life, while leveraging their experiences and skills to strengthen and elevate neighborhoods across Washington DC, Virginia and Maryland.

Vision
The VSI at GW will increase the number of both high quality episodic and longer term service opportunities available to the student veteran community. The VSI and its supportive students, will work in tandem with the key community partners to identify the most pertinent need areas across the region and marshal the resources necessary to most aptly meet those needs. In doing so, the VSI will establish strategic benchmarks to measure its internal and external impact.

Veterans Day of Service (VDoS)
On March 25, 2017, the Veteran Service Initiative of George Washington University’s Honey Nashman Center for Civic Engagement and Public Service and GW’s Office of Military and Veteran Student Services, will call upon GW students, faculty and staff and local community partners to participate in the annual Veterans Day of Service (VDOS).

The focus for this year’s annual signature event of service centers on serving those who serve through renovation, landscaping, and other projects geared towards improving the quality of life for the veteran community. We invite you to join us as we continue to create change through our community service efforts! You can sign up as an individual or as a group.
