Hibah Fatteh
I am a third year from Michigan with a major in Cell and Molecular Biology and minors in Chemistry and Criminal Justice. This will be my third year tutoring with GW Math Matters. Previously, I have tutored at Cardozo Education Campus, and I am currently at Kramer Middle School. I have also worked for other tutoring programs in the area, teaching in correctional facilities. I love interacting with students, school staff, and other tutors, and there is so much I have learned from them! In the future, I plan on pursuing a research-focused career encompassing my interests in science, social justice, and education.

Shawn Wu
I am a second-year undergraduate student from Massachusetts studying International Affairs and Economics. I have tutored with GW Math Matters since my freshman year and now serve as a Lead Tutor at McKinley Middle School. GW Math Matters is an amazing community for undergraduate students to connect with the DC community and I love to interact with the students and watch them grow throughout the year.

Lucia Vallejo Fuentes
I am a senior Biological Anthropology major with a minor in Criminal Justice from New York. This is my third year tutoring with the program, as well as having participated in the GW Civic Changemakers program. Throughout my time with the program I have worked with numerous middle and elementary schools in the area, and I am a Lead Tutor at Sousa Middle School.

Mohit Jain
I’m currently in my second year of the Master’s program in Data Analytics. Over the past three semesters, I’ve had the privilege of working with the Math Matters program, and it has been an incredibly rewarding experience. I’m particularly impressed by the program’s commitment to providing high-impact tutoring to middle school students. My favorite aspect of the program is the opportunity to work closely with students in a supportive, low-pressure environment, where they feel comfortable asking questions and addressing any challenges without fear of judgment.

Caroline QuaYE
Hello! I am currently a second-year graduate student pursuing a degree in Curriculum and Instruction. Through my involvement in the Math Matters program, I have had the privilege of meeting incredible students and contributing to their educational journeys. I particularly appreciate the program’s focus on relationship-building and mentorship, which allows me to guide students both academically and personally. Additionally, I enjoy immersing myself in the vibrant DC community and learning from the diverse experiences around me. The team at Math Matters is outstanding, and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed working alongside them during my year with the program.

Mackenzie Campbell-Gill
Hi! I’m Mackenzie and I’m a junior studying psychology and minoring in sociology.  After I graduate, I plan on going to medical school and entering the medical field in the future. I’ve been with Math Matters for 4 semesters. My favorite part of the program is making our math lessons fun and engaging so the kids enjoy learning.

Khush Shah
As a graduate student in Data Science with 1.5 years of experience, I have found immense fulfillment in contributing to the Math Matters program. My primary motivation for joining was to give back to society by helping students grow academically and personally.

What I cherish most about the program is the unique opportunity to travel around Washington, D.C., and guide students toward becoming their best selves. The experience of engaging with students in a dynamic and supportive environment has been incredibly rewarding, as it allows me to inspire confidence and foster curiosity in learning. Additionally, the chance to connect with diverse communities has enriched my perspective and deepened my commitment to education and mentorship.

Lauryn Schumann
I am a junior from Phoenix, Arizona double majoring in Political Science and Criminal Justice. This is my third year with Math Matters, and I currently tutor at Stuart-Hobson and Sousa Middle Schools. After graduating, I plan on attending law school to become a juvenile defense attorney.

Abby DiLorenzo
I am a first year Masters in Public Health student on the Health Promotion track. I have been working with Math Matters since 2022. I have always loved working with students in academic and extracurricular contexts, and Math Matters is an enriching opportunity that allows tutors to make positive impact on DCPS students in math and beyond. My favorite part about Math Matters is engaging with students and teachers and learning about the DC community.

Jesus Veliz
My name is Jesús Veliz, and I’m an American Studies major with a minor in Spanish, set to graduate in May 2026. Since Fall 2022, I’ve been part of Math Matters, where I’ve had the privilege of working alongside an incredible team. What I enjoy most about my experience is the strong sense of community and collaboration that makes our work truly meaningful.

Issouf Diarrassouba
Hi, my name is Issouf Diarrassouba, and I am a senior pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. I have been tutoring with Math Mattress since the program was created. I love watching and playing sports, especially soccer. When I’m not tutoring or playing soccer, you can find me exploring new hobbies.

Gabriella Osei-Poku
I am currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Education with a concentration in Curriculum and Instruction. I hold a BA (Hons) in Psychology, and an MA in International Education. Additionally, I am a Senior Certified Professional Human Resource Practitioner. I am passionate about providing access to quality education for every student with a primary interest in interventions to support middle school math achievement.

Since 2022, I have served as a graduate assistant for the Middle School Math Curriculum and Instruction. In this role, I build tutor capacity and teach how to apply math concepts to real-life situations relatable to middle school experience. My favorite aspect of this role is creating a stimulating and engaging learning experience for students to build their understanding of basic math concepts and reinforce their learning.

Etiene Effiong
I am a second-year Master's student in the Data Analytics program. I have been with the Math Matters program for almost a year now. I joined Math Matters to combine my technical skills with my passion for community service, seeing it as an opportunity to create meaningful impact through education. My favorite part of the program is collaborating with our diverse community partners and tutors, working together to make mathematics more accessible and watching our students grow in both skills and confidence.
