Annual events are opportunities for students, faculty and staff to engage in service on a one-time basis. Individuals or groups can participate in signature events which provide a great opportunity to meet new people or strengthen a group or team while impacting the community!
We realize the limits of what we can achieve in one day. Our hope is that all participants will understand challenges facing Washington, DC and will take advantage of our other ongoing service opportunitiesto make a deeper impact.
César Chávez, Dolores Huerta and Larry Itliong (CHI) Day is an annual day of celebration and call to action that honors the life, legacy and values of César Chávez, Dolores Huerta and Larry Itliong, our foremost farm workers and human rights activists. CHI Day 2021 is TBD.
Convocation and Welcome Day of Service is the official welcome event for the incoming class. President LeBlanc, Provost Blake, faculty, staff and student leaders will join all first-year students for a day filled with engaging speakers, direct service projects, reflection and fun. Convocation and Welcome Day of Service will take place virtually throughout the month of September.
Give-A-Gift is a signature event and tradition where members of the GW community provide holiday gifts to families in Washington, D.C. Due to COVID-19 restrictions we are unable to collect physical gifts. This year we will be hositing a virtual gift campaing which will run through Friday, Decmber 11, 2020.
As part of the GW celebration of the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. students, faculty, staff, alumni and community members are invited to participate in a day of service, leadership development and interfaith dialogue. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, MLK Day of Service and Leadership will take place mostly virtually on Monday, January 18, 2021.
Veteran Day of Service brings together military-affiliated and civilian populations to serve those who have served, connect GW students, faculty and staff with the larger community, and elevate communities across the DC Metro region.
