15 Years of the Nashman Center

Celebrating 15 Years of the Honey W. Nashman Center
GW Alumni & Family Weekend • October 25, 2025
Join us as we celebrate 15 years of the Nashman Center for Civic Engagement and Public Service—a milestone honoring our history, impact, and community.
This fall, the George Washington University community will gather to honor 15 years of the Nashman Center—a milestone celebration of civic engagement, public service, and community impact that has shaped generations of GW students and strengthened our partnerships across Washington, D.C. and beyond.
Since its founding in 2009-10, GW's Center for Civic Engagement and Public Service has been a hub where students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members come together to learn, serve, and lead. Renamed in 2015 to honor Associate Professor Emerita Honey W. Nashman, a pioneer of community service and social justice at GW, the Center has carried forward her vision of higher education as a force for equity and civic responsibility.
On October 25, 2025 we’ll reflect on our legacy, spotlight stories from students and alumni, and celebrate the people and partnerships that make civic engagement central to the GW experience.

MORE DETAILS TO COME SOON!
We celebrate the long and powerful history of GW's engagement with the local community. This anniversary event also honors the 30+ year legacy of the Office of Community Service at GW, started in the mid-90s, which was the home for the Neighbors Project, DC Reads, and Jumpstart. These three programs have formed the core of the co-curricular programs for the Center for Civic Engagement and Public Service in all its iterations. Please help us celebrate the community connections going back to the 90s and even beyond.
For more than three decades, beginning with the Office for Community Service in 1993, GW has built a culture of service rooted in partnership, justice, and leadership. This is an opportunity for us to honoring the legacy of these impacts and stories. It's also a celebration of our people! This event is for:
Students who discovered purpose through service and carry these lessons into their careers.
Faculty who bridged classroom and community through innovative, engaged teaching and research.
Alumni and partners who extended the reach of our mission and remind us that civic leadership lasts a lifetime.
Community members who welcomed GW as collaborators and co-creators in making change.
Staff members who have been the engine in making the mission and vision of what we do here possible.
As we honor our past, we will also look to the future. The challenges facing our democracy, our city, and our world call for leaders grounded in empathy, justice, and action. The Nashman Center remains committed to preparing those leaders—students who will continue to ask hard questions, build strong communities, and create lasting change.
Together, these stories form a living legacy—proof that civic engagement is not just something GW does, but part of who we are and who we choose to be. So, join us in celebrating 15 years of impact—and in imagining the next, hopefully, many more.
