Meet Honey W. Nashman
Honey W. Nashman has been involved in academic programs and the scholarship of engagement in higher education for more than 50 years supporting community development, human rights and social justice. This includes a 43-year tenure at GW. Prior to retirement, she was the Director of the Human Services & Social Justice Program in the Sociology Department. She co-founded the University Office for Community Service and served several terms as Commissioner, DC Commission for National and Community Service. Honey is active on several boards related to building community, social justice, and human rights.
She has numerous publications related to civic engagement and volunteering, including an article on “Philanthropy: A Benefit for Personnel and Organizations Managing Volunteers." Since retirement, she has received a Fairfax County Volunteer Award and the Eleanor Sue Finkelstein Award for Special Needs for service, leadership and program development. She is extremely proud of the opportunity to participate in the awarding of the Honey W. Nashman Prize for Academic Achievement and Service to outstanding seniors in the Human Services & Social Justice Program and also the Honey W. Nashman Research Award for Community-Based Participatory Research. The University's Center for Civic Engagement and Public Service was renamed the Honey W. Nashman Center for Civic Engagement & Public Service in her honor.
