As an engageDC participant, some of the ways you can make a tangible difference in D.C. communities include providing tutoring or skill building training for youth and young adults, assisting with meal preparation, supporting workforce development or refugee resettlement programs, and more. You'll also have the opportunity to enhance organizational capacity and develop new program areas, all while gaining valuable skills in leadership and community engagement.

During the 2024-2025 academic year, participants completed approximately 16,544 service hours, an increase of 172% from the previous year.

Some capacity-building projects included participants designing and leading dental hygiene clinics for A Wider Circle; introducing and facilitating courses in baking, embroidery, guitar, and sewing and sustainability at LAYC; and creating an annual STEM fair at Life Pieces to Masterpieces.

Several participants received grants to fund or sustain this work, as well as traveled to regional and/or national conferences to present their work.

Whether you're passionate about education, social services, or community development, engageDC offers a unique opportunity to make a measurable impact, while also building connections with GW peers, community members, and professionals in the field. Join us for a semester or academic year, committing approximately 3-8 hours per week.

Volunteer and Federal Work Study students are welcome to apply. The FWS application can be found here and the volunteer application can be found here.

We hope to work with you!
