What is the Impact of High-Impact Tutoring?
According to the Office of the Superintendent of Education (OSSE) report for the 2023-2024 school year, more than 7,000 students in DC were served by the city-wide HIT tutoring initiative (12% classified at-risk). With 3 scheduled tutoring sessions a week, overall absenteeism decreased by 0.5 percentage points, translating to an additional half day of school over the course of the year. The impact was even more significant with an additional 0.9 days attended when tutoring sessions were scheduled during the school day.
What our tutors are saying:
“I loved being a part of GW's Math Matters Program and I am so thankful that I got the opportunity to meet so many kind people and help kids in the DC area with math! I loved being a tutor and education means the world to me. I believe that every student should have the opportunity to succeed and to have equal access to the resources that will help them succeed. The best thing about my tutoring experience at GW has been the connections and relationships I have made with kids in the surrounding schools. I know they're going to do great things, and I can't wait to hear all about them!”
“The best aspect of your tutoring experience has likely been the opportunity to witness students' growth and understanding in math. Seeing a student grasp a concept that they previously struggled with can be immensely rewarding.”
“I decided to become a tutor to share my passion for learning and to help others overcome academic challenges. It's rewarding to see students achieve their educational goals and gain confidence in their abilities.”
