AmeriCorps CEO Michael D. Smith presented President’s Volunteer Service Awards to five students from The George Washington University. These awards were presented while AmeriCorps, the agency for national service and volunteerism, celebrates National Volunteer Week.

Log at least 100 hours of community service between April 21, 2024 and April 20, 2025 and you will earn the President's Volunteer Service Award issued by the White House! All hours must be recorded in the GWServes platform  by 11:59pm EST on Sunday, April 20, 2025 and all award winners will be notified by the end of April! Award recipients receive a lapel pin signifying the amount of service hours completed along with a silver service cord for graduating seniors.

  • Bronze Level: 100 to 174 hours
  • Silver Level:  175 to 249 hours
  • Gold Level: 250 hours or more

Service hours can consist of hours completed through any of the six Pathways of Public Service and Civic Engagement: direct service, social innovation projects, community engaged learning/research, community organizing, policy and governance work, and philanthropy. Hours do not have to be completed through GW or in DC to count towards the PVSA. Students can record service hours completed as part of a course, student organization service, and internships with nonprofits or public agencies including government internships. If you are unsure whether your service hours count towards the PVSA, please email [email protected]. If you need support recording your hours in GWServes, check out our tutorials!
